When to Call a Mobile Mechanic vs. a Tow Truck

3 min readBy Asher Mobile Mechanics

When your car quits on you, the first question is usually the wrong one. People ask "who do I call?" before they ask "what's actually wrong?" Get the second question answered first and the first one answers itself.

When a mobile mechanic is the right call

A lot of breakdowns are fixable right where they happen. A dead battery, a flat tire, a bad alternator belt, a fuel issue, a starter that won't turn over, brakes that need attention before you drive again. These are jobs we handle on the roadside or in your driveway without your car ever leaving the spot it's parked in.

If the car will run, or could run with one repair, calling a mobile mechanic usually saves you both the tow bill and the wait at a shop. We come to you, diagnose it on the spot, and most of the time you drive away.

When you actually need a tow

Some situations are a tow, plain and simple. A wreck, a seized engine, a transmission that's done, or anything where moving the car under its own power isn't safe. If there's fluid pouring out, a burning smell, or the car won't shift, don't try to limp it home.

The good news is you don't have to guess between the two. We offer both. Call us, tell us what happened, and we'll tell you straight whether we can fix it where you are or get you towed somewhere it can be fixed.

When you're not sure, just call

Twenty-four hours a day, the safest move is to pull over somewhere safe and call. A two-minute conversation beats sitting on the shoulder wondering. We'd rather talk you through it than have you make the wrong call.
